The Psychiatric Unit offers a continuum of care ranging from Emergency Psychiatry to Acute Inpatient Psychiatry to Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient treatment. Our inpatient unit offers acute care for adult patients with primary psychiatric disorders. Nursing care is augmented by Occupational Therapy and Social Work seven-day-a-week, and our physicians are active members of Sheppard Pratt. We boast a short length of stay, with rapid transition to our partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient programs, both available five days per week. In addition, we can provide ECT on either an inpatient or an outpatient basis. Staff in all three areas of the service line are offered cross training to maximize flexibility as acuity and census changes.
Testimonials
Connie Drenner, RN
"As a relatively new nurse at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, with twenty years of health care experience, I am most impressed with the level of professionalism, empathy and care given to psychiatric patients in the ED. The patient and family unit is addressed in the psychiatry pod. As a psychiatric nurse at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, I now have the opportunity to work with a wide range of mental health issues (such as teenage suicide, Alzheimer's, sexual abuse and polysubstance abuse). Nurses, mental health clinicians, and patient care technicians work well together which adds to a positive work experience."
Antonia Stevenson, RN
"I enjoy the camaraderie with the staff, the excellent benefits and sense of accomplishment, nurtured in a challenging yet caring environment."
Beth Onyilofor, RN
"I am an ED nurse as well as a psych nurse, but I enjoy working inpatient psych at Baltimore Washington Medical Center due to the staff that works well as a team, friendly and supportive of each other while providing quality patient care. Most of all we have a great team leader that allows flexibility. Great place to work!"
