Endoscopy Department

The Endoscopy Department consists of three preparation rooms, five procedure rooms, a ten-bay recovery area, scope cleaning room and administrative offices. The unit is self-contained offering pre, intra, and post-procedure care for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures, bronchoscopy, regional anesthesia blocks, and other minor procedures. Staff consists of registered nurses, gastroenterology technicians, and a posting clerk. The unit is a fast-paced espisodic unit caring for both outpatients and inpatients.

The Endoscopy Department provides an opportunity for RNs to function in an environment which provides a high level of teamwork. The nurses and technicians are very involved in assisting physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Nurses enjoy the opportunity of one-on-one patient contact providing patients with support and teaching about procedures as well as their disease process.

Scheduling is flexible, with minimal on-call evening, weekend and holiday coverage requirement. Nurses and technicians are encouraged to participate in the National and Regional Gastroenterology Nurses Association. Educational funding is available for staff who pursue certification.
