Emergency Department

Our new 43-bed Emergency Department opened in June, 1999 and is now the second busiest in the state, with over 95,000 visits annually. It was designed by the ED staff and provides such services as a Fast Track, 24-7 Triage and Reception, and an active SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner) program. The ED includes a 3-bed Psych "pod,"staffed by psychiatric RNs and mental health clinicians. The nurse to patient ratio in the ED is four patients to one nurse.

We are education-oriented, with courses such as TNCC, ENPC, and PALS held on site each year. All RN's are ACLS certified. Membership dues to the Emergency Nurses Association are fully funded for RN's who are certified in emergency nursing (CEN). Each year, several staff nurses are given the opportunity to attend the National Emergency Nurses Scientific Symposium.

Testimonials

Denise Poland, RN, BSN: "I have been an employee since 1979, and a RN since 1984. I work here because it has a close knit sense of community atmosphere."

Lynn Fleming, RN, BSN, CEN: "I have worked in the ER since 1988. I work here because the ED is very organized. I love the people I work with, they are like family. I also like the educational benefits."
